About BDF 2015

The Bangladesh Development Forum is a high level flagship event of the Government of Bangladesh, organised by Economic Relations Division , that is taking place on 15 and 16 November 2015 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka. At the BDF, government will share its national vision and strategies with the wider development community and consult esteemed development partners on key development priorities. The Bangladesh Development Forum will gather ministers, top government bureaucrats, political representatives of donor countries, senior development partner officials and civil society, to ensure a strengthened partnership for the country’s development. As this Forum is taking place just after world leaders launch the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Forum will provide an exceptional opportunity to discuss how to take forward these globally agreed goals at the national level.

key note session

The key note session will be devoted to ‘Macro-economic management: A journey from lower to higher middle income country through an inclusive growth strategy ensuring SDGs’. This will be followed by six thematic working sessions centering on the 7th Five Year Plan and SDG implementation. The themes of these working sessions will be:

  • Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change
  • Strengthening Economic Foundations: Strategies for Development of Infrastructure
  • Governance and Development: Strengthening Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation
  • Health and Quality Education: Offering a Secure Future for All
  • Social Protection: Leaving no one Behind
  • Mainstreaming Gender in Economic Development

Working session will be chaired by Ministers and bring together development partners, civil society, private sector and various government institutions for an exchange on necessary action to implement the Five Year Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals. It will conclude with an outcome document spelling out necessary joint steps in each of these six thematic areas.

Agenda for BDF 2015

The forum will have one inaugural session, one key note session, 6 thematic working sessions and one closing session. Thematic working sessions will center on 7th FYP, Government’s key priority areas and SDGs implementation. A few central questions will be formulated for each working session, which is expected to be concluded with specific actionable outcomes.

The format of the working session will be:
  • Presentation (10 min)
  • Panel discussion (5 to 7 min each)
  • Plenary discussion with the room (30 to 40 min)
  • Conclusion by the session chair (5 min): presenting the way forward

BDF 2015 Development Fair

Back-to-back with the Bangladesh Development Forum 2015, Government organized a “Development Fair” where public institutions, civil society organisations and development partners showcased some of their most exciting and innovative work in the country. The fair was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on the first day of the forum. Hundreds of visitors discovered the 41 stalls, presenting initiatives ranging from water management to climate adaptation and youth empowerment. At the closing of the BDF, the most outstanding stalls were rewarded with a prize in recognition of their interesting materials, appealing display and strong interaction with the visitors. The third prize was rewarded to the booth on “Education for All, All for Education” by the team of “Campaign for Popular Education”” (CAMPE). The second prize was rewarded to the stall devoted to “Water, Sanitation and Water Resources Management” ran by a collective of development partners. Finally, the first prize was rewarded to the booth “Ensuring Energy for Sustainable Development of Bangladesh” by Petrobangla of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. The Hon’ble Finance Minister, Mr. Abul Maal A. Muhith, MP in person presented the three winners with their awards. All other participants were given a crest as a token of appreciation for helping to make the BDF a very animated event.
