Sub-Group Mission

As the National Water Policy (NWP) has been approved by the Government of Bangladesh and the National Water Management Plan (NWMP) is under preparation, the main task of the LCG Sub-Group will be to assist the Government in implementing the NWP and the NWMP.

About the Sub-Group

The LCG Water Management Group evolved gradually from an information-sharing forum to a forum where development partners in the water management sector discuss issues such as: • Joint-analysis • Harmonisation and alignment It also provides a platform for discussion between the development partners and the government. It has been in existence for more than ten years. At present, the sub-group is chaired by the Netherlands Embassy. The development partners in this sector at present are: Asian Development Bank, CIDA , DANIDA, DFID, EC, FAO, IFAD, JICA, KfW, The Netherlands Embassy, SIDA, UNDP,USAID, WFP, World Bank

Priority Areas

The overall mission of the sector is to support the Government of Bangladesh to operationalise the National Water Policy (NWPo) promulgated in 1999 and the implementation of the National Water Management Plan (NWMP) approved in 2004.
Sector priorities also include formulation and implementation of sector programmes like the Water Management Improvement Programme (WMIP) covering medium and large scale projects.
